Delegation of representatives of the City of Brno made an inspirational trip to Sweden on e-mobility

A delegation of representatives of the City of Brno visited the Swedish cities of Stockholm and Gothenburg from 13 to 15 June 2023. The visit helped to get acquainted with Swedish solutions in the field of electromobility and Smart Cities and supported the possibility of transferring this knowledge and experience to Czech conditions.

Brno, the second largest city in the Czech Republic with 380,000 inhabitants, has the ambition to become one of the leading European cities for a sustainable future. It wants to reduce CO2 emissions by 40% by 2030. One way to achieve this is to make significant progress in the development of vehicle electrification. The development of electromobility, including possible connection to smart energy grids, is also an important part of the Smart City strategy. That is why the City of Brno, together with Teplárny Brno, a.s., has launched a unique project to build a comprehensive network of public charging stations, the aim of which is to build a network of charging stations that will serve the public and significantly increase the availability of electric vehicle charging in the city.

Sweden has one of the highest proportions of rechargeable cars among EU countries. In 2023, 65% of passenger cars sold in Sweden are expected to be rechargeable. Following the significant growth in sales of rechargeable vehicles, the pace of building charging infrastructure also needs to be accelerated at the same time. Czech companies have also noticed this trend. Today, the Czech platform ChargeUp manages the charging of electric cars in the city of half a million in Gothenburg. The software solution delivered to energy company Gothenburg Energi has enabled the connection of around 1,500 public and private charging stations and provided comprehensive management of the charging infrastructure in Gothenburg.

The Embassy of the Czech Republic in Stockholm participated in the preparation of the programme of the visit.
